A. D. King joined Ferranti in 1966, initially
working on development of navigation displays
for aircraft, including the Harrier and Tornado.
In 1975 he became Chief Engineer of a group
with responsibility for many inertial navigation
systems including the guidance system for the
Ariane launcher. In 1981 he became manager of
the Company’s gyro business, and in 1989
became Chief Engineer of the Navigation and
Electrooptic Systems Division. Ferranti Defence
Systems was acquired by GEC Marconi in 1990
and is now part of Marconi Electronic Systems.
